Lights

This is my lighting page!!

I have since lost the front fogs & indeed the XR2 lights, imho it looks alot harder and unsuspecting with the standard look.

Previously..

The standard headlight mounting had rusted out thus failed the MOT. As the mounting needs to be removed for XR2 headlights & i already had a set of XR2 headlights, it seemed logical to fit them! Main problem was finding a location for the front indicators since Mk1 bumpers seem to rust abit a good condition Mk1 XR2 front bumper really isn't one of the easyist parts to track down!

First i drilled a hole in the headlamp to mount a 21W orange bulb, hoping it would be visable with the lights switched on. Sadly this wasn't the case and it would have proved extremmely dangerous! What i did next was drill several holes in the bumper, file it square and fit a Mk3 Granada boot light under the headlights in the bumper. They are identical to Mk2 XR2 boot lights just use a lamp holder with a 5W Wedge style bulb. I used a 21W ornage bulb with a Audi 80 bulb holder as they are considerably smaller than any bulb holder found on a ford. Although due to they're size they still only emitted approx. one inch square of light. Which still really isn't good enough for front indicators in my opinion, specially with no side repeaters.

Now I'm using modified Mk2 VW Golf indicators, which look much better and indeed operate better. It also allows me the option to fit smoked, green/blue tinted or clear lenses. Although I quite like the orange ones at the moment.

My foglights are flush mounted in the front bumper, these are from the front grille on Relient Kitten cars. My spotlights are standard XR2 genuine Ford spotlights mounted to the front pannel using Mk1 XR2 spotlight brackets.

At the rear i've also fitted a pair of Mk2 rear clusters and wired up the reverse lights as the car was never fitted with them from standard. However if you intend on doing this yourself remember that the Mk2 fiesta uses a live through the gearbox switch as opposed to the Mk1's switched earth system. This is done like this as all the lights on the Mk2 rear light cluster board use one permanet earth. I have also fitted a second rear foglight. Another point worth noting here is the fact that pre-faclift 1976-1979, faclift 1980-1983 & Mk2 rear foglights are all very slightly different.

Interior
As far as the interior lighting systems is concerned it differs a large amount from standard. I have fitted Mk3 Granada boot lamps into the footwell trim cards, although the actual cards have been substituted for black carpet, as found on the rear of the back-seat from the Mk2 XR2/Ghia. In the bottom of the doors I have fitted 5W lamps and in the side of the door under the latch i have fitted a red 5W lamp. Both lamp units can be found from Mk3 Granada's. I've also fitted twin boot lamps.
